PRP Or Platelet Rich Plasma Procedures
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a natural skin and tissue regeneration therapy using your own concentrated blood platelets and bioactive proteins. PRP activates stem cells and releases growth factors, which triggers tissue repair. For this reason, PRP has been used for decades in wound healing, dentistry and in the treatment of sports injuries.
At Academy Laser Clinics we perform PRP injection with the advanced EmCyte PurePRP II. No other PRP extraction system can match the concentrations and efficacy of PurePRP II to restore natural volume and enhance the health and youthful function of skin.
PurePRP therapy is also a perfect compliment to enhance the results of other procedures such as CO2 DOT laser, Silhouette Soft Thread Lift, MonaLisa Touch, Dermal Fillers and CALIBRE. Please ask about our treatment packages.
PurePRP therapy is fast becoming one of the most popular procedures to address a variety of cosmetic and lifestyle concerns, including:
- Stimulating natural collagen volume to plump wrinkles and crepey skin on the face, neck, chest, stomach and knees;
- Restoring healthy cellular function and eliminating toxins, which clears the complexion and provides a hydrating glow;
- Plumping and smoothing existing acne scarring (great in combination with CO2 DOT Laser);
- Improving blood vessels and nerves in penile tissue, which improves erectile dysfunction symptoms (PRP-Shot for Men);
- Regenerating the health and sensitivity of vaginal tissue, which assists with post-menopause atrophy and urinary incontinence symptoms (also combined to enhance the effectiveness of MonaLisa Touch Laser); and
- Hair regrowth for men and women.
PurePRP II has evolved to ensure optimal concentrations and more comfortable re-injection techniques. This has expanded its use as an anti-ageing and skin regeneration procedure, enabling us to effectively treat a variety of aesthetic and intimate lifestyle concerns.
PurePRP II activates stem cells, which form new tissue such as collagen, elastin, muscle, nerves, blood vessels, etc. thus assisting to restore the optimal structure of your skin. White blood cells assist in removal of damaged tissue, pathogens, bacteria and fibrotic tissue, allowing the new layer of healthy collagen and elastin to grow. The result is brighter, hydrated, plump and more youthful skin. Blood flow is also improved, which enhances the bodies ability to excrete pathogens and bacteria.
What was old and damaged is repaired and made new; the essence of regenerative medicine!
Most patients will notice improved skin hydration within a week of treatment, however, the underlying structural improvements start to improve after 30 days and continue for up to 90 days. Best results are seen 30 days after the recommended 3 treatments sessions.
* Results may vary based upon the cause of symptoms
PurePRP is autologous, meaning it is found naturally in your body (i.e. your blood). Because of this, PurePRP poses no risk of allergic reaction, sensitivity or other complication when extracted and re-injected under medical conditions. Nearly everyone is suitable for PurePRP therapy and it can be used safely on any part of the body showing signs of ageing, skin laxity, lost volume, poor blood flow or tissue degeneration.
When performed by an experienced injector, the treatment is relatively painless with minimal downtime.
Improvement in skin texture and blood flow is possible with a single treatment, however, for optimal skin regeneration and for more advanced skin problems it is recommended to schedule an initial course of three treatment sessions spaced over 12 weeks. To maintain the anti-ageing benefits, refresher sessions are recommended every 6-12 months.
You will meet with one of our Cosmetic Nurses or Doctors to discuss your skin concerns, expectations and an appropriate treatment plan. Where your skin condition is not deemed suitable for PurePRP, other treatment options will be suggested.
PurePRP treatment begins with a simple blood draw, which is spun in a unique medical device to separate and harvest plasma, platelets, anti-inflammatory white blood cells and bioactive proteins. The process to create PurePRP takes about 20 minutes in total.
PurePRP is collected into a syringe and re-injected with a fine needle back into your skin and tissue, where it’s needed. Our experienced and gentle injectors ensure the procedure is comfortable. Numbing cream can be applied if desired and cannulas (instead of needles) can be used on the face and body to reduce the chance of bruising.
You will experience a mild inflammation and swelling during treatment, which is what we want to see, but this will generally settle within 24-48 hours.
To reduce the chance of bruising, you should avoid Fish Oils and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAID’s) such as Nurofen and Voltaren in the week leading up to your PurePRP session.
After PurePRP, the treated area may be swollen for up to 48 hours but should settle down as the body resorbs the fluid. If swelling does not subside within 48 hours, please contact our clinic. You may also experience some bruising and tenderness at the injection site, which is normal.
Post treatment care instructions will be supplied and you should follow these carefully.

- PRP Skin Therapy (two areas) = $1,250 per session
- PRP-Procedure (male or female intimate area) = $1,350 per session (Doctor only)

For patients wanting a light topical PRP treatment post-CO2 DOT laser, Academy Laser Clinics does offer a simple “test-tube” extraction technique. The concentrations of this PRP are lower and less controlled, however, it is sufficient as a post-laser topical application to enhance skin healing. Topical PRP applied post-DOT Laser treatment is only $130 per application.
PurePRP poses no risk of allergic reaction, sensitivity or other complication when extracted and re-injected under medical conditions, however, it may not be suitable for clients with:
- Cancer or metastatic disease;
- An active infection;
- A low platelet count; or
- Pregnant or are breastfeeding.
To trigger effective skin and tissue regeneration using PRP, platelets must be concentrated to between five and nine times the baseline level found in your blood, with a minimum of 1 million platelets per microlitre. In addition, red blood cells must be removed and certain nutrients and white blood cells must be present in the right amounts. To address infectious processes, a different concentration of red and white blood cells is required. Plus, the quality and purity of cell recovery is critical.
The early generation “test-tube” PRP systems are simply not capable of achieving these precise cell concentrations or quality.
After years of research, the EmCyte PurePRP II system was developed using unique extraction protocols to ensure therapeutic strength PRP is customised for every patient and the underlying condition.
