Being happy is not our ultimate goal. However, it is more healthy and possible to strive to be happier. Attractiveness can be achieved in the same way.
It’s best to see it as a continuum and not an either/or. High self-esteem is not about being more attractive or avoiding unattractiveness. It’s a healthy and normal part of having high self-esteem.
Before we start, I want to clarify a few things. I will not give fashion advice or tell you how to apply invisible concealer. These topics are covered in plenty of information online.
I will not tell anyone to be confident, speak clearly, and keep eye contact. Your behavior can have a significant impact on your attractiveness.
Here are six scientific methods that can make you look more attractive, even if they seem unusual. They aren’t unhealthy, and anyone can use them.
Carotenoid Tan
You can water flowers with colored water, and the color of the leaves will change over time.
The human being is not so different from plants.
Carotenoid compounds are found in brightly-colored foods such as sweet potatoes and carrots. Consuming high-carotenoid foods regularly will alter the color of your skin, giving you a natural glow and a natural tan.
It sounds crazy, but you will soon see the truth.
A groundbreaking study published in The Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology recently sheds light on skin color’s importance as a determinant of facial attractiveness.
They divided the 60 participants into two groups and asked them to rate their attractiveness against a paler-faced counterpart. The second experiment involved two groups. One group was exposed to the sun, and the other had bright vegetables.
The first group had 78.5% more attendants who rated the sun-tanned skin as attractive than the pale.
A tanned skin or high-carotenoid food is much more appealing than being pale.
You might think that I will recommend getting a tan from carotenoid-rich food sources. Vegetables are known to prevent cancer development, and sunburn can cause it. This is indeed a valid reason.
They had to ask the attendants to rate the attractiveness and contrast of the 24 sun-tanned composites with the carotenoid options. 75.9% favored the carotenoid tan.
Participants in the study were free to choose their carotenoid intake. This is a good thing. The fact that there wasn’t an experimenter at every meal suggests that the participants maintained a relatively normal diet.
High carotenoid foods are now considered supplements. They have amazing health benefits and give you a better tan.
Here is a list of high carotenoid foods. As a general rule, you should look for bright/strong colors.
- Sweet Potato
- Carrots
- Dark Leafy Greens
- Dried Apricots
- Sweet Red Peppers
- Cantaloupe Melon
- Butternut Squash
Get some every day. My favorite snack is carrots with hummus. Smoothies are quick and easy.
Reach 12% Body Fat
People believed that the most attractive characteristic of a man was his masculine features. This included a strong jaw, brow, and pair of biceps. This belief has been challenged. Leanness, which is more predictive of physical attractiveness for men than masculine features, turns out to be a better predictor of male physical attractiveness.
A study was published in the Proceedings of The Royal Society of Biological Science. It asked 29 young, fertile women to rate 69 young men of all sizes on their attractiveness and masculinity, as well as body fat. They then administered a Hepatitis-B vaccine to the men and measured their testosterone levels.
Surprised by the findings, low body fat correlated with masculine characteristics. The study found that 12% body fat was the most attractive. The immune system and testosterone levels decreased as body fat increased.
The test was not done on women. However, the body fat for women that corresponds to 12% in men would be in the range of 20-25%. This is the lowest end of the healthy range.
Beauty Sleep
From the Karolinska Institutet (Sweden), John Axelsson led a study that examined the relationship between attractiveness and sleep. They photographed 23 non-smokers and had them groomed. Then, they neutrally posed for two sets of photos — one where they were sleep-deprived and one in which their eyes were open.
Sixty-five observers, who didn’t know the person’s sleep status, were asked to rate the subjects’ attractiveness, health, and tiredness. The observers asked the people who could not sleep well to rate their attractiveness, health and tiredness.
Meditate
There is a strong correlation between perceived attractiveness, health, and appearance. A common rule is that attractiveness can be attributed to being healthy (emotionally and physically).
I have written extensively about the benefits of meditation, explaining how it can improve your mood, reduce stress hormones and clear the skin, and prevent mental illness.
Wear red
In many contexts, red can be linked to danger, status and sex. The powerful were the ones who ” wore Red” in Ancient Rome. In nature, red snakes are the most vicious. In baboon cultures, red is associated with alpha male characteristics. Celebrities often walk the red carpet in modern culture.
Several experiments at the University of Rochester asked women to rate photographs by whether they were willing to date, kiss, or engage in any other sexual activity with the men. To see if the experimenters could manipulate the clothing of those pictured, they cleverly altered the color.
It did. The images in which the men wore red showed that women were more open to sexual activity than those where they wore black. Other studies have also revealed that men are more attracted to red-colored women. Think Jessica Rabbit.
Smells Nice
Everyone is aware of the importance hygiene plays in our lives. Bad odors can be a problem. Skunks even use bad odors as a survival strategy. However, few people realize that good smells can change your facial attractiveness.
Monell Chemical Senses Center research showed that participants could alter the outcome when asked to rate the attractiveness of a woman’s photo.
Rose oil (pleasant) was also released into the room as photographs were taken. Observers found that those pictured were significantly more attractive than the ones without. The attractiveness rating of the pictured people was also negatively affected by fish oil (unpleasant).
