Creating an eye look can be an art form. There are reasons makeup artists are called pros.
Some simple tricks will help you transform your shadow skills from D to A, whether you want a smokey look, a touch of bronze, or a neutral look.
We called upon Yvette, one of our top makeup artists, to share her top tips. (Or you can book a makeup lesson if it’s easier to learn face-to-face ).
Always use primer
Eyeshadow primer keeps your eyeshadows in place and protects them from creasing and fading throughout the day.
Use a beige-based
The primer will be set if you apply a powder over it. However, the beige hue will make your eyeshadow stand out even more. Because the neutral undertones reflect light, any shadow you apply after the primer will look as natural as the one in the pan.
Get to know your brushes.
The right tools can make applying eyeshadow much easier. However, a simple look may require six brushes. It’s easier to hire a makeup artist. A large shadow brush is essential for highlighting and a precision brush for pigment application. It would help if you also had a fluffy blending tool to buff the look for flawless results.
Preventing pigment loss
This is the bane of your existence. You’ve applied your eyeshadow to your base perfectly, but you still have pigment on your cheeks. This is the easiest solution. While you apply shadow, fold some tissue in half and place it under your eyes.
Always highlight
Highlighter applied to the inner corners will instantly increase your eyes’ size, width and awakeness.
Eyeliner
Liquid eyeliner can be applied along the upper lash line while leaving the lower lash line untreated. This will increase the eye’s openness. You can enhance your shadow look by applying kohl to the waterline if you have large eyes. A smudging brush can apply the kohl along your lash line.
